Web 2.0 is a buzzword it means different things to different people. Wikipedia describes it in part as “Web 2.0 refers to a perceived second generation of web development and design”, and goes on to say that was developed to accommodate the new ways the web is being used and that file sharing, social media sites, blogs, and any site where people interact with each other, fall into what is generally considered Web 2.0 websites.
Anything from something that uses Ajax or has shiny buttons, gradients and shadows/glass look, right through to YouTube or Facebook type sites fall into the Web 2.0 category. It is an enigmatic term that encompasses much of the modern internet.
The web used to be strictly an information gathering media, it quickly evolved into a place where people communicated directly or indirectly with each other; the first web 2.0 sites could be considered online forums. For more information check out what Wikipedia says.
Some Canz Design Web 2.0 Projects
The first large Web 2.0 site Canz Design developed in 2001was a stock image bank designed so that up to 2000 photographers could log in, upload photos and edit the descriptions, keywords etc. This image bank had over 25,000 images when it closed down in 2006.
Another big web 2 web project for Canz was a social media site for life and business coaches; this site has an interactive coach login which members can market their coaching services, books, Coaching Seminars and Workshops; members may make purchase ask for advice and interact with the coaches.

One of our favorite projects was a large Gay travel Directory where visitors use an online booking system. The site allows visitors to plan their completely organize their vacation which includes booking flights, accommodation, activities and car rentals all on one website!
This website was a rebuild or makeover of an established site that had been online for several years, so one of the criteria was all the existing pages ( 60+ pages) maintained the same web address or URL of the old hand coded website.
Changing the site to a database driven site has saved the owner hundreds of hours by allowing him to concentrate on website content, not the logistics of planning how to integrate his new content.
Rainbow Tourism can now edit, add and update their pages, bookings and client data with ease.
